The Omega Universe

The Omega Universe

The universe is a big place.  Who would have thought it was so fragile?

Once, so long ago that to give it a figure would be meaningless, a civilization strode between worlds and stars and between different realities as easily as a human rows from one island to another.

But those days are gone, along with that civilization.  Only a tiny handful of universes remain, each one vast in its own right, yet, by comparison to the glory that once was, no more than a delicate bubble, floating in the night.  They cluster together, these fragile realities, around one other universe: ever so slightly stronger than its parasitic siblings.  There are doorways through, for those who know how to find them, or build them.  But the journey is not the easy transition that it was for the ancients.  To get to the Omega universe – the last stronghold of its kind – and to escape the gathering darkness, these wary travellers must pause in the space between.  This aethyric eddy, birthplace of particles too strange to name and of powers beyond mere technology, is called The Precinct by those forced to name it.

Once, there were many such places – Now there is only one.
Precinct Omega!

The Skrap World

A world not unlike our own, the Skrap World is, to its inhabitants, simply “the World”.  Like our world, it is barely a mote of dust in an unimaginably vast universe.  Like our world, it teems with life, including the ambitious and aggressive species that calls itself “human”.  Like our world, nation rubs against nation in empires, blocs and treaties and war is inevitable and frequent.  Like our world, religion is a source of both consolation and strife.  Like our world, men and women turn increasingly to science over theology to answer questions about the universe.

But this is not our world.

Skrap relics, left by a long-vanished pre-human civilization, so ancient that tectonic motion has ripped them apart, buried them beneath thousands of feet of rock or thrust them up to the tips of unassailable mountains, mark this world as different.

The empires of humanity know that untold power lies in wait for those who can unravel the mysteries of skrap and will stop at nothing to claim that power for themselves.  But the lure of skrap is stronger than even they might imagine, for its call has reached across the boundaries of reality into other universes, where strange beings have learned that, in skrap, their own ascendance might lie.

Dragons, refugees from a vanished reality, build a reluctant empire in the East.

The Faerie Court dispatches its fey emissaries to every corner of the globe.

The Exiles of Zyon descend on mighty pinions from a mysterious plain.

The Hellish Legion whispers corruption into the minds of the powerful.

In the frozen North, where the barbarian relics of a forgotten civilization sail ships of ice and rock, it is whispered that the Aesir walk…

And in the unseen corners of time and space, concealed but ever-present, slumbering in quiescent patience, lies something else: something darker and more horrible than any threat yet encountered by the races of humankind…
