WARNING!  WARNING!

With effect from 18 July 2011, Precinct Omega Studios will be raising their prices for commission miniatures painting.  These rises will apply to only some categories of miniature and some quality levels, particularly to Level 1 (tabletop) quality and are intended to enable us to continue paying our painters at a rate at least equivalent to the National Minimum Wage.

For the same reason, we have reviewed our volume discount policy and, whilst a volume discount will continue to apply to most projects, this will be reduced to a typical level of 5%-10%, with the full 25% discount applying only to the very largest projects.

However, all of our quotes are still valid for up to 12 months from the date of issue.  So if you’re thinking about commissioning Precinct Omega Studios to paint your army, now is the time to get in touch.  Any quotes issued before 18 July will be based on our current prices and still valid until July 2012!

Finally, although no decision has yet been made, we are currently reviewing our Repeat Customer Discount policy.  Anyone will a full discount is guaranteed that it will continue, even if the qualifying criteria change in the future, so get Precinct Omega Studios to paint your project sooner rather than later and you could be enjoying privileged savings for years to come.

Thanks to the input of our new business manager, Precinct Omega is reviewing some of its discounting policies and procedures to see where we can afford to perhaps be more generous and, indeed, where we will have to be a little less open-handed if we are to continue making money.

We’re going to begin by removing the £5.00 discount to all prices offered on projects collected in person.  We included this to encourage opportunities to meet and chat with clients approximately local to us and it has been great to get to put faces to names in the few cases of people who took up this offer.  However, our office is based in our home and, as we have just become foster carers, it isn’t feasible to continue receiving clients at home.
However, as all Precinct Omega Studios quotes are valid for up to 12 months, quotes issued before 22 July that that explicitly offer this discount will continue to be honoured.

After promising it for over a year, now, we’ve finally launched our forums!

To see the latest photos of projects Precinct Omega is working on, for sneak peeks of forthcoming products and for general chatter about content on the Precinct Omega HobbyCast and BattleCast podcasts, this is the place to go. There is a host of excellent forums out there in Internetland – we featured a few of our favourites on Episode 15 of the HobbyCast! – so we don’t expect vast amounts of traffic on Precinct Omega’s forums. But pop in, once in a while, check out what’s new and maybe leave a comment.

Well, it took us a day longer than planned, but our free download of the 0th Edition of the Skrapyard rules has come down and been replaced with the Raw Rules version, which we’ve optimized for use on smart phones and tablet computers by reducing the page size to A5 but keeping the text as large as the original.

You can get that at our downloads page.

Meanwhile, we’ve got two new collaborations to announce.  The first is with Think Wargames.  Think will be adding an option to purchases of the Warhammer 40,000 starter boxed set from Games Workshop to buy the set fully painted by the talented hands of the Precinct Omega Studios team.  Initial options will only include painting to tabletop level, but if the service proves popular, we’ll be rolling it out to include the starter sets for other games and, hopefully, to battalion boxed sets and more.

Our second collaboration is with Mike Broadbent of Eureka Miniatures.  Mike told us:

“Having been in the hobby industry since 1979, I tend to see the same old ideas regurgitated as “the next best thing”, vary rarely does something come along that piques my interest like your Skrap World concept has.  I was immediately lost in the world of Skrapyard and the associated skrapgangs.  Fabulous stuff!”

And to prove that he meant it and wasn’t just chatting us up, Mike has offered to sculpt two new miniatures for Skrapyard for free!  Now, Precinct Omega isn’t a charity, so we’re still talking with him about what arrangement we’re going to come to, but as we already have our production schedule for the next three Skrapyard miniatures planned and in-hand, we’re going to see if we can’t get Mike to do something special for us.  What will it be?  We have no idea.  But we’ll let you know just as soon as we can.

More excitement at Precinct Omega Towers, because our first two miniatures are now finished and on sale in the shop.

Here are some pics of the painted minis:

Meanwhile, having returned from meeting so many great people at Hammerhead 2011, we are happy to offer for free download the demo skrapgangs and the brand new scenario we ran at the event on our Downloads Page.

However, time to download the full Skrapyard: Devil’s Reach 0th Edition for free is running out.  From 1 March, we will be replacing it with a stripped-down version of the rules without explanatory text, background, skrapgangs, heroes or scenarios.  We will still be releasing material to help people play the game without needing to buy the rules, and a PDF version of the full 0th Edition will be made available to buy.

Meanwhile, plans are in hand for the next miniatures releases from April, with the full-colour 1st Edition slated for August 2011.

Things got very exciting in Precinct Omega Towers this week, when our first delivery of Skrapyard rulebooks arrived:

Skrapyard Books

We were planning on holding onto these until Hammerhead, but if you want a copy, email us and we’ll see what we can do.

Meanwhile, we are hoping very much to see our first two miniatures, the Captain of Swords and Faerie Emissary, going to the metal casters next week, with every expectation that they’ll be on sale for Hammerhead and maybe even before!
